Inspiration

Laundry was a very labor-intensive chore that required much more time than today.  Usually a washboard would be used to create the necessary suds to clean the soiled clothes.  These were made with a wooden, glass or metal insert that was corrugated that allowed the user to scrub the cloth.  This task was contained inside a large wash tub.  After washing and rinsing, the clothes were hung out to day.  Ironing out the wrinkles was the last necessary step.

To memorialize this grueling task, I have designed a coffee table type table that uses washboards for spacers between the top and bottom sections.  The tabletop resembles an old ironing board and I even simulated a scorched top in the shape of an old iron.  Three bunn feet are turned and installed to elevate the whole table to the standard height.

Using any native hardwood and new washboards, this delightful conversation piece for any modern home is simple piece to construct.
