Inspiration

In the Appalachian area log cabins and log houses were the norm.  Many of these dwellings would have a summer kitchen.  This would be a separate building adjacent to the log home.  Since the kitchen would be very hot in the summer while in use the heat would not migrate to the home.  And of course, if the kitchen caught fire, then the rest of the home would not burn.

These kitchens were very simplistic in design.  Cabinets were not common but shelves were used to store all the necessary items needed to cook and prepare meals.

These shelves would be used to house items on top as well as hang implements from below.

I designed the kitchen shelf to be more ornate than most historic shelves.  The gentle curves and common joinery make the kitchen shelf blend in well with today’s décor.  A true Appalachian heirloom that will last and be functional at the same time.
